In this study, we will be taking an in depth look at what was nailed to the cross, and what was not nailed to the cross, on page 19 you will find a statement by Billy Graham, this statement is in his Dallas Times Herald News Paper Question and answer column, and it refers to people writing in with questions about the Ten Commandments, I suggest that you read his statement, and then come back and go through this study guide to see for yourself. We will Be Looking at Both Old and New Testament to see if this is relevant for us. I encourage you to read the questions and comments in this study and think about them, and then form your own opinion, I also encourage you when reading Paul’s writing on the law to read in context before and after to see if you can see exactly what law he is talking about, instead of adding your own opinion, because the Bible will always explain itself. Its important to see If He is talking about the Law of circumcision, or the sacrificial Law, or the Ten Commandments, if you read in the context you can always find out what Paul is talking about, and this is absolutely necessary, because we can not take a text out of its context and build another doctrine out of it. And why is this so important, let’s look and see what Peter says some people do with Paul’s writings.
2Pet 3:15, 16 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
(16) As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
(COMMENT) how could it be that some people, would twist Paul’s writing to their own destruction, could it be that they are not looking to see what he is talking about, and making a doctrine out of a text taken out of context? Let’s see if we can find out what Paul Says was nailed to the cross, and we will be looking at such texts as not under the law and the Book of the law. We will also take an in depth look at The Commandments in the New Testament.
But you may say, doesn’t Colossians say the Commandments were blotted out, let’s look and see and we will be looking at the word ordinances in Colossians to see if we can find the answer.
The two laws in the New Testament, what was nailed to the cross? Lets look and see first what was blotted out. Colossians 2:14. Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way nailing it to his cross.
(COMMENT) notice that this is called the handwriting of ordinances, and it says that it was against us, lets look and see if the ordinances, are different than The Ten Commandments, we will also see which Law the Old Testament Says was Against us, then we will have a clear understanding of what Paul was talking about, when he was writing to the Colossians.
Was there a difference between the Ten Commandments and the ordinances?Numbers 9:12 They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.
Numbers 19:1, 2 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, (v2) This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke: (COMMENT) notice that these ordinances are dealing with animal sacrifices and ceremonies connected with them, Not The Ten Commandments
Is there a difference in the Ten Commandments and the ordinances? 2 Chronicles 33:8) Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses. (2 Kings 17:34, 37) Unto this day they do after the former manners: they fear not the LORD, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; (v37) And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods.
(COMMENT) notice that in these Scriptures, that Ordinances and Commandments are listed as being something different.
(COMMENT), lets look at the word ordinance in the original Greek language in Colossians 2:14 the word (ordinance) in the original language is (dogma) =ceremonial law, the ceremonial law was written in the book of the law, not in the ten Commandments, if you notice in Colossians 2:14, it says this law that was nailed to the cross was against us, we want to look and see if the Bible will tell us which law was against us, we want to see if it is the Ten Commandments, or if it was the ceremonial system, in order to do this, we must first look at the Commandments and how they were given, and then look at another Law and how it was Given, and the Bible will plainly tell us which one was against us.
How were the Ten Commandments given? Exodus 31:18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
(COMMENT) they werewritten with the finger of God on tablets of stone.
Did God also speak the Commandments from the mountain? Deut 4:12, 13 And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude; only ye heard a voice. (v13) And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone.
(COMMENT) God also spoke them to the people from the mountain. Then when Moses came down from the mountain, the people were dancing around the golden calf, and Moses Got mad and threw the Tablets down which contained the Ten Commandments and they were broken, then God tells Moses to come back up the mountain again.
Why did God have to write them a second time? Deuteronomy 10:1-5 at that time the lord said unto me, hew thee two tables of stone like unto the first, and come up unto me in the mount, and make thee an ark of wood,(v2) and I will write on the tables the words that were in the first which thou brakest,and thou shalt put them in the ark.(v4) and he wrote on the tables, according to the first writing, the ten commandments, which the lord spoke unto you in the mount of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly: and the lord gave them unto me. (v5) and I turned myself and came down from the mount, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; and there they be as the lord commanded me.
(COMMENT) notice that God would not allow Moses to write one word of the Ten Commandments, there was to be no mistakes or carnal changes from man. And notice that these tablets containing the Ten Commandments, were put inside the Ark of the Covenant. Now notice that the next Law that we look at, is written by the hand of Moses, in a book instead of on stone, and it is put on the side of the ark on the outside, and it says this law was against us
What does the bible say about the Law of Moses? Deut 31:9 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel. Deuteronomy 31:24-26 and it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished. (v25) that Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying, (V26) take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.
(COMMENT) notice that God did allow Moses to write this law, but it was in a book=(scroll) and this book of the Law was put outside the Ark, The Ten Commandments were put inside, , showing that they were distinct and separate in nature. It says this Book of the Law was against us just as Colossians 2:14 says that the handwriting of ordinances that was against us was blotted out. Colossians 2:14 is talking about the ceremonial Law not the Ten Commandments.
Was there a distinction between the law of God and the Law of Moses? (2 Kings 21:8) Neither will I make the feet of Israel move any more out of the land which I gave their fathers; only if they will observe to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that my servant Moses commanded them.
Now let’s look at the difference in the two laws. The ten commandments were written on stone by the finger of God, and were placed inside the ark, the book of the law was written by Moses, and was placed on the outside of the ark, signifying that they were two distinct and different laws separated from each other, and it says the book of the law was against us, but never does it say that the Ten Commandments are against us, they were given in love for us, if everyone followed them you could go on vacation and never lock your house, you could walk down a dark alley with no fear of being mugged, the first four commandments deal with our relationship to God, and the next six deal with our relationship to our fellow human being. the book of the law, contained the animal sacrifices, that said if a person committed a sin, they had to bring a perfect lamb or other type of animal, place their hands on its head confess their sins, then the sinner had to cut the throat of the animal, and the priest would perform his service, the book of the law also contained the ordinance of circumcision, which was against a person, think of being a thirty five forty or even sixty years old man and coming out of Egypt and having to be circumcised, with no pain killers such as we have today, a very painful event and you can see why the book of the law was against them, if they were not circumcised they could not eat of the Passover, and were thus separated from the people of Israel.=(cut off).
just as it says in Deuteronomy 31: 26 that the book of the law that Moses wrote was against us, why does it say that this law was against us? It was because of the animal sacrifices and circumcision, it also contained certain feast days that meat and drink offerings were connected with, also on these feast days, they had to sacrifice many animals, making them different than other days, how is another way we can tell that Paul was talking about the ceremonial law in Colossians 2:14, if you look back in verse 11 we see that he is plainly talking about circumcision, (v11) in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made with out hands, in putting off the body of sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.
(COMMENT) why was it necessary for Paul to tell the gentiles that the law of ordinances was nailed to the cross? Answer because the Jews were always following Paul around telling the converts, that they had to be circumcised, and that they must keep the feast days, in order to be saved, and we will look at the counsel of Jerusalem on this subject a little later in this study.
How was this law of sacrifices nailed to the cross? John 1:29 behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. (COMMENT,) Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice that put and end to the animal sacrifices in the ceremonial (law of ordinances) and now circumcision is no longer an outward sign, but it is of the heart, a newborn creature, please consider that the animal sacrifices had a ceremony that went with them, just as marriage has a ceremony connected to it but the ten Commandments had no ceremony, you plainly just don’t kill, or don’t steal. And Jesus Did not Die to give us a license to sin and steal and kill and commit adultery. As Billy Graham said he came to set us free from sin, and not to Give us a green light to Sin, and if there is no standards in Gods word then each one of us is free to pick what we feel is right and wrong and many will choose a life that is not in harmony with God.
What about Ephesians 2:15? Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace, (COMMENT) once again we see that it is the law of ordinances: the word ordinance once again in the Greek is (Dogma=meaning ceremonial law. How can I know Paul was not saying the Ten Commandments were done away with, look in the same book of Ephesians 4:28 he says let him that stole steal no more… plainly one of the Ten Commandments. to be exact # 8 so if they were abolished why would he tell them not to break one of them?
We want to take a look at these two laws in depth in the New Testament and see what was truly nailed to the cross, the Ten Commandments, or the ceremonial law of the book of Moses. But let’s take one more look at the old testament and see if there was a law of god before the Israelites and mount Sinai.
Why did god say he would make a great nation out of Abraham? Genesis 26:1-5
(v5) because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my Commandments, my statutes, and my laws, Job 22:22 receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. (COMMENT) The Promise of Abraham becoming a great nation was given approximately 430 years before The Israelites were given the law from Mount Sinai, and the Bible tells us, That Abraham Obeyed Gods Voice, Kept his Charge, his Commandments, his Statutes, and His Laws, so the moral standards of Godliness had to be in effect at that time, or else Abraham could not have kept them, and Job tells us that they were given verbally from Gods mouth, and the Book of Job was the first book of the Bible written it was written by Moses while he was a shepherd among the Midianites, Therefore Gods standard of right and wrong were to be verbally passed down from generation to generation. Then the Israelites came out of Egypt, and they had so slipped into the customs and worship practices of Egypt, that God speaks the Commandments From the mountain, and writes them on stone with his own finger, written in stone signifies eternal and not to fade away, if there were no standards of right and wrong, how could God tell Cain in Genesis 4:7 if thou doest right thou shalt be accepted but if not sin lieth at the door, and when Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt, Gen 39:9 and Potiphars wife said, come lay with me, Josephs Reply was, how can I do this Great Wickedness and sin against God, therefore Joseph had to know that adultery was a sin, and the Bible tells us in 1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. (And) in Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Paul tells us that he wouldn’t know what sin is except Gods Law, his standard for right and wrong shows him, and John tells us that breaking Gods Law is sin,

We will take an in depth look at the scriptures and see where he says we are not under the law, and what it truly means, but first lets look at what the New Testament says about keeping the Ten Commandments.
Did Jesus come to do away with the Ten Commandments? Isaiah 42:21 The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
Matthew 5: 17-19 think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets, I am not come to destroy but to fulfill. (v18) for verily I say unto you, Till Heaven and Earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (v19) Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least Commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven, but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
(COMMENT) if he says I did not come to do away with them and one jot =(Dotting of an I) or one tittle= (crossing of a T) shall not be done away with till heaven and earth pass away, the last time I looked the stars were still out there and the earth was still under my feet, then he says in verse 19 that if we keep and teach them to people we will be great in his kingdom, but if webreak them and teach men to do the same, we shall be called the least, it makes no sense to teach someone to do what has been done away with, just as it makes no sense if Jesus said I didn’t come to do away with them, but I came to do away with them, it seems like a cruel thing for Heaven to call a person the lowest or least for breaking the commandments (IF) they had been done away with. We will see from a thorough study of the New Testament that the Ten Commandments were not done away with. Only the book of the law that Moses wrote containing the ceremonial sacrificial system. Some say that the word Fulfill means to do away with, but it simply means to fill to the full, in Matt 3: 15 Jesus Tells John the Baptist to Baptize him, to fulfill all righteousness, if Fulfill meant to do away with, then either Baptism or righteousness would have had to be done away with, and we know this is not the case, because two chapters later in Matt 5:6 Jesus says blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, and in acts 2:38 we are told to be baptized and receive the gift of the holy Ghost, also in Colossians 1:25 Paul says he is a minister to fulfill the word of God, if fulfill meant to do away with, then this would mean Paul did away with the word of God, and we could all throw our bibles away, but fulfill does not mean to do away with, it means to fill to the full, and in Matt 5:17-22 Jesus does not do away with the Commandment thou shalt not kill, But rather he Magnifies it by saying that we shall not verbally kill our brother or sister, and in verse 27, 28 he does not do away with the Commandment on adultery, instead he Magnifies it, just as Isaiah 42:21 said that he Would magnify the Law and make it Honorable, he expanded and made things clear and plain.
Did Jesus ever tell any one to keep the Ten Commandments? Matthew 19:16-22 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? (v17) and he said unto him, why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou will enter into life, keep the commandments. (COMMENT) here Jesus plainly tells the man to keep the Commandments and in verse 18, 19 he starts listing some of the Ten Commandments, do not murder, don’t commit adultery, don’t steal, do not bear false witness, honor thy father and mother, he also said we should love our neighbor as ourselves, then he alerted the man to a problem he had, he had put his money before god, here Jesus plainly tells the man to keep the Commandments, but that’s not enough we must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, it seems highly illogical to tell some one to keep what you have thrown away, this is another example of the Ten Commandments not being done away with, but only the ceremonial law of animal sacrifices. And some would say because he didn’t list all ten, that the others were not valid, I disagree we still can’t take Gods name in vain, and we still can’t worship other Gods Etc.
Some people say that Jesus, only gave us two Commandments, lets look at that, Matthew 22:35-40 then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, (v36) Master, which is the great Commandment in the law? (v37) Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (v38) this is the first and great Commandment. (v39) and the second is like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, (v40) on these two Commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
(COMMENT) why did Jesus say these two were the greatest and on them hang all the law and the prophets? Because the first four of the Ten Commandments, deal with our relationship to God, and the next six deal with our relationship to our fellow human being. Were these two new Commandments, or had they been given in the old Testament? Deuteronomy 6:5 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might, Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. Deuteronomy 10:19 Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. (COMMENT) we see that the same two Commandments were in the Old Testament, and they didn’t do away with the other ten then, and they don’t do away with the other ten in the New Testament either, they enhance them, and we know Jesus said to keep the others because he told the rich man to in Matthew chapter 19, that we looked at previously, he said to keep them and he listed more than two right out of the Ten Commandments. And He said in Matt 22 that on these two hang all the Law, consider this, if you hang your Jacket on a clothes hanger, it does not do away with the Jacket, but it supports it and holds it up, Just as Love is the factor that Supports the Commandments, you cant say I love someone and be stealing from them at the same time.
What did Jesus say we would do if we love him? John 14:15 if ye love me, keep my Commandments, John 14:21 he that hath my Commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him, John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. (COMMENT) if the Commandments were done away with, why does the New Testament tell us so many times that we should keep them, have you ever asked yourself this question? And Jesus says that if we truly love him we will allow these principals to govern our conduct.
What Does God want to do with the New Covenant?Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; Isaiah 8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples. (COMMENT) God would not want to write in your mind what has already been done away with, he wants them in your mind, so that they may be his standard for governing your life.
What did john say about the commandments 1 John 2:3, 4 and hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his Commandments, (v4) he that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his Commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
Does walking in harmony with God have anything to do with the answering of my prayers? 1John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
If I deliberately close my ears to Gods standards will he still bless me? Pro 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
Is Satan mad if we keep the Ten Commandments? Revelation 12:17 and the dragon (Satan) was wroth (enraged) with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant her seed, which keep the Commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus. (COMMENT) if they were done away with, Satan would not be angry at you for trying to keep them, but rather would be laughing at you for trying to keep what has been done away with, but instead he makes war with those who keep them. Because breaking them is sin, and Satan is the author of sin and rebellion.
Why is Satan Mad if we keep the Commandments and have the testimony of Jesus?Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Isaiah 8: 20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. (COMMENT) here the Bible says that Gods Law, his standard for right and wrong, converts the soul, because it shows us his will for our lives, and shows us where we fall short, then it leads us to ask him to change our heart, so that we might be able to walk in harmony with him.
Are the end time saints keeping the Commandments? In Revelation 14:9-11 the most solemn warning is given not to worship the beast and his image, and if the people that are on earth at that time do worship the beast it says the wrath of god will be poured out on them then it gives us a picture of the saints that are living at that time (v12) here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the Commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. Revelation 22:14 blessed are they that do his Commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates of the city. (COMMENT) here John tells us that Satan is mad if we keep the Commandments, he also tells us that the end time saints keep them, and that those who keep them may eat of the tree of life, what happened to Adam and Eve when they sinned, Genesis 3:22-24 they were cast out of the garden, and God said he had to put them away from the tree of life, lest they put forth their hand and take and eat and live forever, they were created to live forever, and the tree of life, was to sustain that life, but they broke the 8th Commandment, God said they weren’t to take of the tree of good and evil, and if they did they would die, by taking and eating what was not theirs to eat, and by listening to Satan they were cast away from the tree of life and ended up dying, Revelation 22:14 tells us that if we keep the Commandments we may once again have right to that tree of life, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, Satan is out for your very lives because he knows that his time is short, Rev 12:12 and he deceives the whole world, Rev 12:9, I beg of you to take a close look at this study, to see if Satan has managed to deceive you.
How many of the Commandments can we legally break? James 2:10-12 for whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. (v13) for he that said, do not commit adultery, said also, do not kill, now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill; thou art become a transgressor of the law. (v12) so speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. (COMMENT) here again it mentions the Ten Commandments, and says that if we break one of them, we are guilty of breaking them all, and he even says speak and act accordingly. And it calls it the law of liberty.
What does the bible Say liberty is?Psalms 119:44, 45 So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever. (v45) And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.
(COMMENT) when God delivered the people out of the hand of the Egyptians, He proved that there freedom was of utmost importance to Him, then He said, I am the Lord thy God, that brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, then He gave them 10 Commandments to live by that they might remain free. Exo 20:1-17.
What did Solomon say about the Commandments? Ecclesiastes 12:13 let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God, and keep his Commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Proverbs 28:9 he that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.
Why were the Israelites taken captive and destroyed?Isa 5:13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. (COMMENT) when we want to do our own thing, and set up our own standard of Godliness, we will always fall into the clutches of our enemy.
How did Isaiah say to test the spirits? Isaiah 8:20 to the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
What did Jesus say about this matter? Matthew 7:21-23 not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven. (v22) many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name have done many wonderful works? (v23) and then will I profess unto them, I never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (COMMENT) the word iniquity in the original Greek is (Anomeia) meaning the transgression of the law, the violation of the law. Here he says depart from me you that have deliberately broken the law, he also said in verse 21 that only those that do the will of his father will enter the kingdom of Heaven.
What is one scripture that tells us about the fathers will? Psalm 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God, yea, thy law is within my heart.
What does he mean by the law in his heart? Heb 10:16 this is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them. (COMMENT) Galatians 3:27-29 tells us if we have been baptized into Christ we have put on Christ, and there is no difference in the Jew or gentile, for if we are Christ’s we are Abrahams seed and heirs according to the promise, Christ wants the law to be in our heart not on stone, that we may treat one another accordingly, so many Christians are being taught that the Commandments have been done away with,
How can we have Gods law in our heart?Ezekiel 36:26, 27 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (v27) And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
How can the Righteous Requirements of Gods Law be accomplished in my life?Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (COMMENT) holy spirit filled people are able to walk in harmony with God. Who does Paul say it is, that does not submit to Gods law?Rom 8:6, 7 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (COMMENT) here Paul tells us that if we are not submitted or surrendered to Gods Law, we still have a problem of being carnal or worldly minded, and this mind is the mind of death, not life and peace.
Why does Jesus say the love of many will grow cold? Matthew 24:12 and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold, (COMMENT) the word iniquity in the original Greek is (Anomeia) the transgression of the law the violation of the law. We have cast Gods law to the Ground, and we have lost the relationship of the first four which is how we treat God, and the next six is how we treat our fellow human being.
Does faith in Jesus do away with the Law? Romans 3:31 do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea we establish the law. (COMMENT) true Faith causes us to want to do what is right and live by Gods standard of right and wrong.
Part 3 WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT GODS LAW AND CONTINUING IN SIN?
What does the Bible tell us sin is? 1 John 3:4 whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law for sin is the transgression of the law. Romans 7:7, 12 what shallwe say then? Is the law sin? God forbid: nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, thou shalt not covet; (v12) wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just and good. (COMMENT) Here the Bible tells us that breaking Gods Law is a sin, and Paul Says that he would not know what sin is except that Gods Law shows him, and he says the Commandment is just and holy and good.
If Breaking Gods Law is Sin, should we continue breaking it That Grace may abound?Rom 6:1, 2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? (2) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Romans 6:15 what then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. (COMMENT) not being under the Law means that we are not under it as a means of being saved, we are saved by Jesus sacrifice, but it certainly does not give us a license to sin.
What Does the Bible say about those who continue in willful sin? Heb 10:26-29 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, (27) But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. (28) He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: (29) Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? (COMMENT) here the Bible tells us, that if we continue in deliberate disobedience after we have learned the truth, the Blood of Jesus does not cover our disobedience.
Does Obedience to God have anything to do with our salvation? Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
Who does the Bible say truly has the Holy Spirit?Act 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Who is it most important to obey God or man? Act 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
What about not being justified by the Law? Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
But Notice what Paul said in the previous chapter. Rom 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
(COMMENT) it almost sounds like Paul is contradicting himself, because the word Justified is the same word in the Greek in both chapters, but actually Paul is in perfect harmony, with both the Bible and the rest of his teachings, that’s why it is so important to read the context of what Paul is talking about, because in chapter Two he mentions the Commandments, and in chapter three he is talking about the Law of circumcision, and as we continue this study we will see that when Paul talks about the law being done away with, if you read before or after you will usually find that he is talking about circumcision, or the book of the Law, I encourage you to look and see what Law Paul is Talking about when you read your Bible, because the Bible will explain itself, and we don’t want to be in the category of those that Peter says twist Paul’s writing to their own destruction, and the question you may have is how can a person twist Paul’s writings to their own destruction, most likely by misinterpreting his words and remaining comfortable in what you should not be doing, for example, the New Testament says that breaking Gods Law is sin, and if you take Paul’s writings on the deletion of the ceremonial Law, and use this to become comfortable breaking Gods Moral standards you could very well be twisting his writings to your own destruction. Now we will see plainly that Chapter three of Romans is talking about circumcision, not the Ten Commandments,
What about not being under the law but under grace what does it mean? Romans 3; 27-31 where is boasting then? It is excluded, by what law? Of works? Nay, but by the law of faith. (v28) therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. (v29) is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the gentiles? Yes, of the gentiles also. (v30) seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. (v31) do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid, yea, we establish the law, (COMMENT) notice what law he is talking about, it is circumcision: clearly not the Ten Commandments, and should we throw away all the laws because circumcision was done away with God forbid,
We are going to look at why it was necessary for Paul to have to tell every church he established, that they were not under the ceremonial law, (ordinances) or the (book of the Law that was against us) and we will se that the Jews were following the new converts around, telling them that they had to observe the law of circumcision or they could not be saved, we will look at the only council of the apostles that ever did away with any thing and we will see that it is circumcision.
Acts 15:1,2,4,5 and certain men which came down from Judea taught the brethren, and said, except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved, (v2) when therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this Question. (v5) but there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, that it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses, (v6) and the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter, (COMMENT) if you look at acts 14:26 you will see that Paul was at Antioch when the Jews came from Judea, telling the new converts that they had to be circumcised, or they couldn,t be saved, and every where Paul went the Jews followed him telling the people they had to be circumcised, that’s why it was necessary for him to say so many times we are not under the law, I plead with you to think about this matter if the ten commandments had been done away with, then its ok to kill, and steal, and sleep with our neighbors wife, sounds pretty ridiculous, even our four fathers knew this because that is what our countries laws are founded on, and there is even a law on the books of the united states that makes it illegal to commit adultery, but its not enforced, maybe its because Christians are told that the ten commandments are done away with that there is so little true new birth experience today, because most Christians are taught they can do whatever they want, but this kind of Christianity will lead many to the broad road and destruction, Prov 14:12 there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
What about where Paul talks about being made free, and not being entangled in bondage? Gal 5:1-4, 6, 11, 12, stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. (v2) Behold I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. (v3) for I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to the whole law, (v4) Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; are fallen from grace. (v6) for in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh love. (v11) and I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? Then is the offence of the cross ceased. (v12) I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
(COMMENT) once again we see it was necessary for Paul to tell the people that Christ had set them free from circumcision, which was in the book of the law that Moses wrote not the ten commandments, and how can we know which Law he is talking about, Because the aw he is talking about in verse four is Sandwiched between Circumcision in verse three and verse six, and when we read the word Law in its context, its plain that Paul is Talking about the Law of circumcision, and not the Ten Commandments. How is another way that I can know that Paul is not advocating the abolishing of the Ten Commandments, because if I continue to Read in this Same chapter in verses 19-21 Paul plainly tells us that if we continue breaking some of the Ten Commandments we will be Lost. Now we will look at these verses, and others in Pauls writings that Talk about the Breaking Of The Commandments.
What are some things that will keep people out of Heaven?
In the next few verses I have highlighted the Commandments that Paul says if we continue to break them, we will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
Gal 5:19-21 (v19) now the works of the flesh are manifest , which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleaness, lasciviousness, (v20) Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, (v21) envyings, murders, drunkenness, revilings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of Heaven
1 Cor 6:9, 10 know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? BE NOT DECEIVED: neither fornicators, nor Idolaters, nor adulterers, nor abusers of themselves with man kind, (v10) nor thieves. Nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, SHALL INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD REV 21:8 but the fearful, and unbelieving, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and Idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (COMMENT) you will notice in the last three scriptures that I highlighted the things in the ten commandments, that if we are breaking them we will be lost, and I will now list them in the order they are in the Ten Commandments, #2 Idolatry #6 no killing # 7 no adultery #8 no stealing # 9 no liars (bearing false witness) #10 no coveters, here is six of the ten right here in just three scriptures, and it says that anyone who breaks these and continues to do so until the lord comes with out repenting and giving them to the lord, will not inherit the kingdom of heaven, what shall we do then give up, GOD FORBID Jesus came to show us that divinity connected with humanity, can keep the Commandments, we need to seek his help in overcoming our faults,
Does Jesus say we should keep any more of them Matthew 15: 4-9 honor thy father and mother , (COMMENT) in verses 5 and six he said they weren’t doing this then in verse 7 he says (v7) ye hypocrites, well did Esais prophesy of you, saying. (v8) this people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. (v9) but in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Comment who are you following God or what man tells you can get away with,
and the reason I brought so many scriptures into this study that say we are not under the law, is so you may truly see what was done away with, and what wasn’t, I beg of you to pray for the truth of God, and you must realize that Satan will do anything he can to deceive you, because Revelation 12:17 says he makes war and is angry with those who keep the Commandments of god and have the faith of Jesus, but we must remember John 14:15 Jesus says= if you love me keep my Commandments,
What about wher galations three talks about the book of the Law? Galatians 3:10-12 for as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the Book of the law to do them.(v11) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident for the just shall live by faith. (v12) and the law is not of faith: but the man that doeth them shall live in them.
(COMMENT) notice what law he is talking about, the book of the law verse 10, the sacrificial system once again not the Ten Commandments, all of these sacrifices pointed to the ultimate sacrifice the lamb of God which is Jesus, he died to fulfill those sacrifices that we no longer had to cut the throat of an animal to be forgiven, and remember in the beginning of this study, we saw that the Ten Commandments were put inside the Ark of The Covenant, and the Book of the Law was placed outside the ark, and it says that the book of the Law was a witness against us.
NOTICE what was done to the book of the law, Heb 9:1, 19, 20 then verily the first covenant had also ordinances (ceremonies) of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary,(v19) for when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, (v20) saying, this is the blood of the testament (covenant) which God hath enjoined unto you. Heb 10; 1 for the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. (COMMENT) here we see that the book of the law was sprinkled with the blood of animals, pointing to the New Covenant, when Christ would die for us, and the blood of animals could not save us, that is why the book of the law was called a shadow of things to come, because when Christ died on the cross, the sacrificial system was nailed to the cross with him, not the Ten Commandments.
What is the new covenant? Heb 10:16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
What is the result of having Gods law in our heart and mind?Romans 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. COMMENT) Ask God to Write his Law in your heart, and ask Him to give you His Spirit, and you can truly walk in harmony with Him.

(COMMENT) here it says if you are not subject to Gods law it is because you are still carnally minded, and to be in this state will result in death

How Long Does the Bible say Gods commandments last? Psa 111:7-8 the works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. (v8) they stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness,
Does the Bible Say that Gods Law represents truth? Psa 119:142 thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is truth,
Part 4 Some say that being obedient to Gods Law is Bondage, but in this section we will find that it is peace , happiness, and brings wisdom.
What does the bible say about wisdom, understanding? Psalm 111:10 the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth forever.
Ps19:7-11 the law of the lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. (v8) the statutes of the are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. (v9) the fear of the lord is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. (v10) more to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. (v11) moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
Psa 119:97-100 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. (98) Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
(99) I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. (100) I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.
(COMMENT) the Bible says that by keeping Gods Commandments, we become wise and will have a good understanding.
What Does the Bible say about Keeping Gods Commandments, Peace, and happiness? Deut 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my Commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children forever! 48:18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my Commandments! Then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea.
Psa 119:165 great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them, Psa 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Isa
Ps 19:8, 11 the statutes of the are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes (11) moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
(COMMENT) the Bible says that there is great peace in keeping Gods commandments, He told the Israelites that if they had kept them, that they would have had peace like a river, continually flowing, constantly renewed, and he says that by keeping them we will have a good understanding, because they are to be cherished more than fine gold, and we are told that when we have them in our heart, that none of our steps will slip. O what a blessing that is promised for those who Love Jesus, and his Precious father, and Keep His Commandments.
(COMMENT) John14 15 says if you love me keep my commandments, Matthew 19:16-19 Jesus told the rich man that it was crucial to his eternal life to keep the commandments and he listed some of the ten James 2:10-12 tells us that if we are breaking one we are guilty of breaking them all and he lists several for example right out of the ten Commandments, 1 John 3:4 says sin is the breaking of the law, Romans 6: 15 says God forbid that we should sin because we are under grace, Heb 10:26 says if we continue in willful sin there is no more sacrifice for us, Rom 3:31 says we do not make the law void by faith we establish it, Matt 7:21-23 tells us that those claiming the name of Jesus and breaking the Commandments committing iniquity the word iniquity in the original greek is (anomeia) the breaking of the law, he says he will tell them to depart from him he never knew them, 1 John 2:3-4 tells us that if we say we know him and keep not his commandments we are a liar and the truth is not in us, Matt 5:17-19( tells us Jesus didn’t come to destroy the law ant that until Heaven and earth pass not one Jot or tittle shall fall from the law, Hebrews 8:10 And 10:16 tells us God wants to write his laws on our hearts, because they are his moral character of love, and he wants us to be like him, Rev 14:12 tells us the end time saints will keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus, Rev 22:14 tells us if we keep them we will be able to eat of the tree of life and live forever, Rev 12:17 tells us that Satan is enraged if we keep them, and makes war with us if we do, WHY because he has tried so hard to destroy Gods moral Law which reflects his character and truly is the moral fiber that should govern the Christian life, and Satan knows that if he can cause us to deliberately break them we will miss out on heaven and end up in the lake of fire according to Rev 21:8, Gal 5:19-21, and 1 Cor 6: 9-10
(COMMENT) There has been two classes of beings since creation began there were the angels who followed god and there were those who followed Satan, there was Cain and Able one did as God said and the other did his own thing and followed Satan, shortly after he Murdered his own brother, in the end there will be the sheep and the goats, the sheep follow the lord and the goats say I know what the bible says BUT I would rather do my own thing and they end up separated from God this is why he characterized them as goats because goats love to but with their heads the front or our head is where our frontal lobe is where we do our reasoning, WE MIGHT ask ourselves are we sheep or goats,
(COMMENT) make no mistake Satan is out for your very lives, and he will use any means he can to destroy you, Matthew 24:24 for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect, 2 Cor 11:13-15 for such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. (v14) and no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. (v15) therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. Comment I hope with all my heart I have given you enough from the bible that you may see that the Ten Commandments were not the law that was done away with, some maybe even pastors may try to tell you theres no need to keep them but my bible tells me different, Isa 8:20 says to the law and the testimony if they speak not according to this word it is because there is no light in them, maybe they don’t really know the truth of the matter, and Satan is able to use that lack of Knowledge to destroy people by their teaching, Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children,
(COMMENT) mark this down and never forget it we are not saved by the commandments, but only by the precious blood of Christ, but we can be lost by deliberately breaking them and if sin is the transgression of the law, and sin is the reason my best friend and savior Jesus had to die, I should no longer want to serve sin but rather do all in my power to follow the one who loved me enough to die in my place, he came and took what I deserved, that I may have what he deserved (eternal life) we do not keep the commandments to be saved we keep them because we are saved, and love him with all our hearts.
On the next page we will see that everything the Bible says about God, it says the same thing about his law, we will see that the Law is a transcript of the Character of God, and God says I want you to reflect my image, we cant be good ambassadors for Christ, if we ruin around acting like the Devil.

Question! Some religious people I know tell me that the Ten Commandments are part of the law and do not apply to us today, is that right?
Answer! No it is not right, and I hope you will not be misled by these false opinions, it is very important that Christians understand what the Bible means when it says they are free from the law, it certainly does not mean that they are free from the obligations of the moral law of God and are at liberty to sin. You see the word law is used by the New Testament writers in two senses sometimes it refers to the ceremonial law of the Old Testament which is concerned about ritual matters and regulations regarding food and drink and things of this kind, the ceremonial law was of a passing character, and was done away with when Christ came, from this law Christians are indeed free. But the New Testament also speaks of the moral law which is of a permanent unchanging character and is summarized in the Ten Commandments, this law sets forth Gods demands, on human life and mans duty to God and his neighbor that it defiantly applies to the Christian is made clear in Romans 13:8-10, of course it is Quite true that the Christian is not saved by his efforts to keep the law, but as one who is saved by Gods mercy through faith in Christ, he is under the obligation to obey Gods law, as it has been said in Christ we are free from sin, but not free to sin, if you love me keep my Commandments. Question! Which of the Commandments apply to us today? I know that they were written thousands of years ago and times have changed, are some of them still useful?
